As a highly sensitive person, nervosity is real. For the HSP anxiety can feel intense and overwhelming. Still, despite my nerves, my friends and family members would all describe me as calm and composed. These are my HSP hacks and this is my HSP survival guide.

About HSPs

The Highly Sensitive Person has a more sensitive nervous system than the average person and experience emotions and sensations more vividly.

[/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type="1_3" _builder_version="3.25" custom_padding="|||" custom_padding__hover="|||"][et_pb_blurb title="Overwhelm" use_icon="on" font_icon="%%100%%" icon_color="#ffffff" icon_placement="left" use_icon_font_size="on" icon_font_size="40px" _builder_version="3.6" header_font="Lato|700||on|||||" header_font_size="10px" header_letter_spacing="1px" header_line_height="1.4em" body_font="Lato|700|||||||" body_font_size="20px" body_line_height="0.8em" background_layout="dark" custom_margin_tablet="||40px|" custom_margin_phone="" custom_margin_last_edited="on|tablet" animation="off" locked="off"]

Clutter & Intensity

HSPs report becoming easily overwhelmed by intense and cluttered environments

[/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type="1_3" _builder_version="3.25" custom_padding="|||" custom_padding__hover="|||"][et_pb_blurb title="Pressure" use_icon="on" font_icon="%%138%%" icon_color="#ffffff" icon_placement="left" use_icon_font_size="on" icon_font_size="40px" _builder_version="3.6" header_font="Lato|700||on|||||" header_font_size="10px" header_letter_spacing="1px" header_line_height="1.4em" body_font="Lato|700|||||||" body_font_size="20px" body_line_height="0.8em" background_layout="dark" custom_margin_tablet="||40px|" custom_margin_phone="" custom_margin_last_edited="on|tablet" animation="off" locked="off"]

Being rushed

HSPs perform worse in quick-paced and stressful environments. So don't let people rush or pressure you too much.

HSP Survival Hacks

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_toggle title="1. Noticing stress and anxiety" open_toggle_background_color="#f4f4f4" closed_toggle_background_color="#f4f4f4" _builder_version="3.6" title_font="Lato|700|||||||" body_font="Lato||||||||" body_line_height="1.8em" custom_margin="||10px|" animation_style="flip" border_width_all="0px"]

Step one is to learn to recognise when you are stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed. Unresolved negativity can be detrimental to your health, so check in with yourself multiple times a day. How am I doing?

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title="2. Finding a center point to balance" open_toggle_background_color="#f4f4f4" closed_toggle_background_color="#f4f4f4" _builder_version="3.6" title_font="Lato|700|||||||" body_font="Lato||||||||" body_line_height="1.8em" custom_margin="||10px|" animation_style="flip" animation_delay="100ms" border_width_all="0px"]

Secondly, find a comfortable way to sit, breathe, and to relax. Think about ways to manage negative emotions and stress and ways to unwind. What do you do and where do you go to unwind?

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title="3. Minimize negative sensory stimuli" open_toggle_background_color="#f4f4f4" closed_toggle_background_color="#f4f4f4" _builder_version="3.6" title_font="Lato|700|||||||" body_font="Lato||||||||" body_line_height="1.8em" custom_margin="||10px|" animation_style="flip" animation_delay="200ms" border_width_all="0px"]

Highly stressful and toxic environments can hit you harder as a HSP. Try to avoid negative situations that aren't constructive to your health, well-being and long-term success. You may need to do difficult and hard things in life, but save your batteries for healthy challenges and conflicts.

[/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title="4. Prioritise stimuli" open_toggle_background_color="#f4f4f4" closed_toggle_background_color="#f4f4f4" _builder_version="3.6" title_font="Lato|700|||||||" body_font="Lato||||||||" body_line_height="1.8em" custom_margin="||10px|" animation_style="flip" animation_delay="300ms" border_width_all="0px"]

To avoid becoming rattled, prioritise what situations and what information is most important to handle. That means prioritising between goals, work, and relationships, and setting boundaries for yourself on what you expect from yourself - and how quickly you need to get there.

HSP Hacks

Here are some personal tips that help me as a highly sensitive person deal with stress and anxiety.

Planning out your day and setting daily or weekly targets can help you avoid overwhelm and clutter.

[/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_blurb title="physical exercise to shake off stress" image="https://www.erikthor.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/illustrator-illustration-17.png" _builder_version="3.8" header_font="Lato|700|||||||" header_font_size="15px" header_line_height="1.5em" body_font="Lato|||on|||||" body_font_size="12px" body_letter_spacing="1px" body_line_height="1.8em" custom_margin="||70px|" animation_style="fade" animation="off" locked="off"]

Going for a run or going to the gym can really help get rid of stress that is stuck in your body.

Time just relaxing and cuddling up or having quality time with others. Make sure you can let your guard down around close ones.

[/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_blurb title="Fresh air and time in nature" image="https://www.erikthor.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/illustrator-illustration-19.png" _builder_version="3.8" header_font="Lato|700|||||||" header_font_size="15px" header_line_height="1.5em" body_font="Lato|||on|||||" body_font_size="12px" body_letter_spacing="1px" body_line_height="1.8em" custom_margin="||70px|" animation_style="fade" animation="off"]

Get away from the higway and seek out peaceful and quiet environments with minimal distractions.
