ENFP Personality Type | The Champion | ENFP A | ENFP T
You know you or someone you know is an ENFP if:
- They enter into a flow state when they are exploring new ideas and possibilities
- They are scared and fascinated by the thought of engaging in artistic or self-expressive activities
- They often feel a desire to prove their worth to society and can hide behind work and projects to ignore their own needs and dreams
- They are stressed and overwhelmed by external obligations and pressure to follow a set process or formula
The ENFP at their best is a Detective and an Explorer who goes into new situations and brings forward new discoveries and new possibilities. At their best, they can translate new ideas and use them to improve on and transform existing structures and belief systems. The ENFP is someone fascinated with the thought of realizing their best version of themselves. In their ideal state, they push themselves to be authentic and self-revealing, but this can be overwhelming and scary for this type, who fears sharing too much.
They may therefore retreat to Extroverted Thinking. This function allows them to detach from themselves and to focus on something productive and worthwhile. But it also risks distancing themselves from their dreams and what is important. This type may also become easily bored and drained and even stressed by Introverted Sensing, which pushes them to finish projects that they start, and to deliver results and proof for what they think. At their best, they gain pride in using this function to realize their ideas, and at their worst, they may fail to commit to any projects and to finish anything.
Extroverted iNtuition
The ENFP Personality type is someone that uses quick-paced intuition and wit to figure out patterns and to learn about new things. They are more bold and better at putting themselves in new situations and trying out things and changing their perspective. They make connections more quickly, but may also make more mistakes and have a more chaotic approach to their intuition.
Introverted Feeling
Introverted Feeling may instill in this personality type a sense of identity and an important quest or mission. It can feel as if it is life and death for this type to be true to themselves. They have to realize their innate potential and live their best version of themselves, else they die or fail. Introverted Feeling here provides a sense of meaning and purpose to you as an ENFP. But it can also overwhelm you and pressure you. So sometimes it can feel as if it would be easier to just give up and focus on what society wants from you instead.
Extroverted Thinking
Extroverted Thinking may provide you as an ENFP with a sense of relief and a break from yourself and your greater mission in life for a while. It can feel like a way to get money or success. It allows you to tune out of yourself for a bit to focus on other people, helping silence your nagging inner voice. It drives results and accomplishments that can feel worthwhile in the short term, and it is less scary than being vulnerable with the world and following your own artistic mission.
Introverted Sensing
Introverted Sensing is a constant challenge and demand for the ENFP personality type. There can be a sense of anxiety for you to complete your projects and to finish what you start. Imagine never getting anywhere. Just jumping from thing to thing. Constantly stuck in an Extroverted iNtuitive chaos. Constantly changing your mind and changing your perspective, and never finding anything consistent. Ideally, as an ENFP, you want to see what is in your mind become real. You want to use ideas you have and finish some of the projects that you start. This is stressful and demanding for you, but also highly worthwhile.
Introverted iNtuition
Introverted iNtuition provides you as an ENFP with a sense of mystery and the sense that there is something greater and bigger going on and if only you can make the right decisions and connections, you will discover that secret. Introverted iNtuition can feel as if it is something just around the corner that you are working towards unveiling. It can also, more negatively, feel like something abstract and meaningless, something unnecessarily complex and hard to understand. This can frustrate and bore you, as it can take longer than you are used to to decode it. But it can also inspire you and make you more focused than you usually would be.
Extroverted Feeling
Extroverted Feeling can provide you as an ENFP with a source of recreation and interpersonal exploration. This can be highly meaningful for you as an ENFP, if you just learn to tune in to it. Many ENFPs feel overburdened by their personal mission, and fail to connect with other people or to prioritize friendships and relationships, because they are so focused on realizing their own potential. But this function can provide a moment of relaxation and fun that can later translate to self discovery and personal growth and reframing.
Introverted Thinking
Introverted Thinking can be your blindspot. Something stressful, scary, and overwhelming. Many ENFPs avoid this function because it’s so uncomfortable, preferring to focus on something more fun and easy. But being able to push yourself to use this function, even if it feels overwhelming and tough, can help you get perspective into your decisions and actions, so that things make a little more rational sense.
Extroverted Sensing
Extroverted Sensing is an important function to help manage your own experience. Use Extroverted Sensing to translate ideas to practical action and demonstrations. Use show and tell and put your ideas out to the world to see how other people perceive them. This function can feel boring and draining to use, so many ENFPs avoid it, but it also helps them manage their energy so they don’t burn out or do something reckless. It grounds you in the moment so that you don’t fly too close to the sun.
The Dominant Subtype
The dominant subtype ENFP is known for being bold and adventurous. They focus on what is next and work against established conventions and institutions. They push against existing beliefs to try to bring about new possibilities. They work hard to finish projects and to translate their intuition to what is, to change and work around and improve structures. They sometimes attract resistance from more conservative forces.
The Creative Subtype
The creative subtype ENFP is known for being highly focused on their personal identity and their own truth. They are a champion and idealist constantly focused on their personal dreams and self expression through art, creative means, and introspection. Because of this, they constantly experience a pressure to change and to adjust their lives and relationships, so that they can live in a more authentic manner.
The Balanced Subtype
This type ENFP is known to be more balanced and comfort-seeking. They are more focused on work and external projects, using Extroverted Thinking. This provides them with a sense of escape from themselves, as business and thoughts about such matters can provide them with less pressure.
The Turbulent Subtype
This ENFP is the most introverted, and most conscientious. This type of ENFP is constantly trying to work around the establishment, rather than against it. Afraid of appearing too crazy or scattered, their focus is on meeting external commitments or avoiding responsibility altogether, by constantly resisting stress and pressure. They can appear fickle and uncommitted as they avoid bigger ideas and projects and avoid completing their projects, too.
