How I Feel About Being An INFJ Today
What does it mean to be an INFJ, an ENFP, or any personality type? More importantly, how do you feel about your type today?
In this video, I explore my own journey with the INFJ label. It’s a question someone asked me, and I think it’s one we should all reflect on. Our relationship with these identifiers can change from day to day. Sometimes it can feel like a perfect expression of who we are. Other times, it can feel like a limitation, a box we’ve put ourselves in.
I share my story of how the INFJ type initially helped me understand my need for Autonomy after experiencing burnout in politics. It gave me a language for my inner world. But over time, I realized I was using it as an excuse. I told myself I couldn’t do certain things because they weren’t “INFJ things.” I avoided public speaking, new adventures, and even dismissed my ability to be a programmer because it didn’t fit the mold.
This is the danger of identifying too strongly with any label. We risk cutting ourselves off from our fundamental human needs for Experience, Play, or Learning simply because they don’t align with our perceived identity. Our spirit can become stale if we don’t allow it the freedom to roam, grow, and wander.
The truth is, you are more than a four-letter code. You contain a depth and breadth that no test can fully capture. I’ve found that by questioning my own self-imposed limitations, I’ve been able to do things I never thought possible, from my work as a programmer to starting Street Philosophy conversations with strangers here in Uppsala.
So I want to ask you a question: Do your goals align with your identity? Or are your labels holding you back from what you truly want?
