The INTJs Cognitive Functions

The flow functions and the stress functions represent our primary identity and how we see ourselves. An INTJ on a good day may describe themselves as philosophical, intellectual, or ambitious. But on a bad day, when under stress, they may feel weak, insignificant or unauthentic. Learn what cognitive Function serves what role in your personality!

The gas pedal gives you energy and momentum and makes you move forward in life. But to do so, it needs inspiration from the 5th function, which serves the role of giving fuel and energy to you. The gas pedal stands in relationship to the inferior function, which serves as the brakes or the reverse. Using the brakes drives a feeling of increased stress, but also helps you avoid a crash or collision. The eight function serves as your warning system, and is represented by anxiety. It makes you aware of problems and risks you may need to be aware of.

The steering wheel helps you avoid problems and navigate life and things you don’t always like. The gears amp up your overall challenge and difficulty setting in life, but also your potential rewards. It is accessed through goal-setting or pushing or motivating yourself to do something difficult. It stands in relationship to your GPS, which represents your overall sense of direction in life. Without the use of the 6th function, you have no conceptual understanding of where you need to go in life. The side mirrors help you understand and navigate that other people may have different goals or values that may clash with your path.
