What Enneagram is the INFJ?

The most common INFJ Enneagram types are, in order of most to least likely, Enneagram 5, The Self-Preservation Instinct, Enneagram 2 and Enneagram 8.

The natural priorities of the INFJ personality type are going to be the same no matter what Enneagram type they have. But how they express these priorities can vary depending on their mental state, childhood and upbringing.

INFJ Enneagram Types

Enneagram 1

The INFJ-1 seeks control in all regards of their life. All actions they make have to be weighed carefully in relation to their identity and who they are. They are tools of their vision and they must do everything they can to execute their ideas properly. This tendency towards self-control can cause them to be at times held back. They can easily become overwhelmed if they are rushed.

Enneagram 2

Enneagram 2 tends to produce a passionate and caring INFJ that is highly focused on self-care, healing and self-love. This type spends a lot of time on their work and on their ideas and wants to make these ideas the best thing possible. This type is often self-absorbed and believes their ideas can solve other people’s problems. If other people can be made to see what I see, they can become happier people. In this, they can become manipulative and pushy people that think they know better than others.

Enneagram 3

The Enneagram 3 work hard play hard mentality is visible in the INFJ in that they have a lot of fun exploring their inner world and their ideas while also making sure to get evidence and test their theories to make sure they are accurate. They want people to recognise who they are and how creative and insightful they are. They are therefore constantly promoting their own ideas to others, trying to get other people to see them the way they see themselves. But they are often prone to self-deceit as they hide anything they think will not be understood by others. Even from themselves.

Enneagram 4

Enneagram 4 INFJs tend to be highly critical towards themselves and their ideas, never feeling they are good enough. They spend a lot of time working on their ideas and seeking to gain recognition from others for their unique self-expression but often feel ignored and invisible. They may struggle with feeling like outcasts or think something must be wrong with them or who they are. At the same time, they have some of the most unique and fascinating ideas and truly deep inner lives that are sadly hidden from the sight of others.

Enneagram 5

If Enneagram 5 is your key Enneagram as an INFJ, you are often a person who is completely obsessed with testing and proving your theories. You not only want to be able to understand the world theoretically but you also want to gain proof and clarity on how things really are. Your natural tendency to process things can cause you to ignore ideas and feelings you are having that you cannot explain.

Enneagram 6

When Enneagram 6 is the key concern to the INFJ, proof and consistency becomes an important priority. This INFJ not only wants to formulate a theory about the world or about the self but also develop a consistent identity or theory that can be tested and verified. Your attitude can make you highly agnostic and you never really trust yourself fully.

Enneagram 7

The Enneagram 7 type INFJ is highly fascinated with their own inner world and their ideas and consider it their primary purpose to test and understand their theories. Seeking to understand themselves and the world around them, they can often become completely absorbed by their research projects. You may get so caught up with an interesting theory or idea that you completely forget to ask yourself whether it is reasonable or whether it is just a wacky conspiracy theory.

Enneagram 8

If you’re an Enneagram 8 INFJ, you are a highly focused and visionary type always working on a project or an idea. Focused on yourself and your own work, anything else comes second to you. You are more focused on execution than on being right or avoiding obstacles or problems. You tend to be really sure of yourself and that you are right until you’re proven wrong.

Enneagram 9

The INFJ-9 is often spread thin between their own projects and obligations and duties they have to other people. In order to stay in harmony with yourself and to stay focused on your ideas, you do your best to balance work, relationships, and alone time. At times you may neglect yourself and struggle to set boundaries, but your attitude makes you a very well rounded and balanced person with an almost infinite set of theories and ideas and some opinions about everything.
